Overview

Develop your knowledge and skills to an advanced level with our challenging Masters degree in Higher Midwifery Practice. Here at ARU we have a track record for innovative midwifery training. If you’re a midwife looking to refine your skills and quickly apply them to your practice, our Higher Midwifery Practice MSc is for you. As a postgraduate student, you’ll learn to assess the individual needs of women and how to plan, implement and evaluate care that meets the need of mother, baby and family alike. You’ll also recognise and respond to facts that affect the physical, emotional and social wellbeing of mothers and babies while developing essential problem solving skills. With concerns about rising rates of intervention, you’ll be encouraged to explore how to promote normality during childbirth and how to care for vulnerable women with complex needs, with the aim of reducing intervention. Alongside this focus on childbirth, we offer a range of optional modules that give you the chance to explore areas such as maternal mental health, safeguarding, and non-medical prescribing in more depth. Or, if you're a UK student studying by blended learning (a mix of campus-based and online sessions), you can choose to take an optional module in Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) and graduate with an additional qualification as a NIPE practitioner. Whether you choose to study by blended or distance learning, you’ll be supported by a team of expert tutors, who are all experienced midwives themselves.
