You can start the programme as a beginner in French or build on your existing language skills. Our language courses develop your reading, writing, and speaking French competency. Meanwhile, you will explore French and Francophone society and culture from different angles, working across literature, culture, film, politics, philosophy, and history. At Honours level, you can specialise in topics as diverse as graphic novels, documentary cinema, postcolonial literature, and advanced translation. Our five-year (Mode A) degree in French includes a full academic year spent in a French-speaking country. You complete your time abroad between your second and third year of study. You can pursue many options, including studying at a partner university, working in schools as a language assistant, or taking up work placements.
