Overview

At all levels, young people and communities are having to deal with difficult and challenging situations. This course will help you learn the practical and analytical skills needed to support people to overcome those challenges. The course is designed for students strongly committed to supporting people experiencing injustice, social disadvantage and/or discrimination and either want to enter professional community development and youth work or are already working in community and youth work settings. You will want ‘to make a difference’ to help enhance people’s lives at a personal and structural level; to counter discrimination and oppression. The course will equip you with the appropriate knowledge and skills, as well as encouraging and enabling you to explore the value base necessary for qualified community development and youth workers. You will have the opportunity to undertake 800 hours of placement practice in a diverse range of community development and youth work settings. This course will prepare you for community development and youth work and make you eligible to practise in a recognised professional field. You will also have a broad academic and practice-based understanding of community development and youth work through placement experiences, supported by wide reading and research.

Study and Work in Canada
