Formerly called the University College of North Wales, Bangor University is a public university established in the year 1884. In Wales, during the nineteenth century, a campaign for higher education provision resulted in the foundation of this university. Voluntarily, the local people, including the farmers and the quarrymen, contributed their earnings for its establishment. In 1911, the main building of this university opened, along with a few arts and social science buildings. After receiving the degree-awarding powers, it started giving out degrees under its current name in the year 2009.
