Australia consists of 41 government-recognized Universities and Number of Government recognized Technical and Further Education (TAFE) Institutions and Colleges. All Australian Universities are established or recognized by Legislation enacted by Australia’s state or Federal Government. Australia has a single comprehensive system of twelve qualifications known as Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). This distinguishes Australia from many other Countries with unconnected qualifications. The AQF is endorsed by the Australian Government and recognized throughout Australia and by other countries.

The tertiary education in Australia can be broadly classified under 3 different categories.

  • VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING (VET)
  • HIGHER EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree, Graduate Certificates, Diplomas & Master’s degree by coursework
  • MASTER’S BY RESEARCH AND DOCTORATE

International reputation of Australian Education

The Australian qualifications are practical oriented and commands a world-class recognition and reputation throughout the world for the employment and further studies. The Learning atmosphere encourages the student for self-learning and imparts up-to-date knowledge based skills in the area of study rather than mere theoretical study. The Australian Education place great importance on developing the ability of the students to think creatively and independently, read widely and critically, participate in Debates and functions as part of the team. The studies consist of on-going assessments and weekly assignments, group projects, seminar presentations etc. These skills provide the student the confidence and practical skills required to undertake employment. The Australian graduates are well employed around the world. Such skills are in demand from employers and so an Australian Education qualification gives students an edge in a competitive global employment environment.

Course Duration

All Bachelor Degrees are of 3 years while professional degrees such as engineering or degree with Hons are of 4 years.

Masters Degree's duration would depend on the basis of your bachelor's degree. Normally the duration of the Master’s degree is 1.5 to 2 years. In some circumstances where the student’s Bachelor’s degree from India is found to be not equivalent to the Australian degree the student may have to undergo a additional semester or year of study through the Graduate Diploma or Post Graduate Qualifying program. In this case the Master’s degree would take 2.5 to 3 years.

Settlement prospects in Australia

The current Australian Migration Policy allows students to apply for Permanent Residency or Skilled Independent Regional Australian work permit on completion of course for a minimum duration of 2 years and above. The student’s however need to meet the current immigration point system prevailing at the time of completion of the course.

A classification of all the skilled Occupation are listed in a Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and particular occupations in Migration Occupation Demand List (MODL) are updated and released by DIAC (Dept of Immigration & Citizenship) from time to time. Tuition Fees

Business courses: Undergraduate and Postgraduate - AUD11,000 - AUD18,000 per annum

Science Courses: Undergraduate and Postgraduate - AUD14,000 - AUD 21,000 per annum

Engineering Courses: Undergraduate and Postgraduate - AUD 17,000 - AUD 24,000.

MBA Courses: AUD21,000 - AUD29,000 full course fees

Living Cost

You require 12 - 13,000 Australian Dollars per annum to support your living in Australia.

Part Time Work

International Students are allowed to work 20 hrs per week during their studies and full time during the summer vacation. Summer vacations are from mid Nov to end of Feb.

Student Visa requirement for Australia

VOCATIONAL EDUCATION & TRAINING: (All diplomas offered by TAFE falls under this category)

ENGLISH REQUIREMENT: Overall Band of 5.5 in IELTS is required (No other test is acceptable)

HIGHER EDUCATION: (Diploma leading to Bachelors), Masters & Doctorate.

Master's Degree by research and PhD

ENGLISH REQUIREMENT: Currently for higher education the IELTS requirement is mentioned as Overall 6.0 Bands.
We need to mention here that the individual Universities and some specific courses would require an higher band score in the range of 6.5 – 7.0 Bands.

Funds Acceptable

The following liquid funds held in the name of Eligible sponsors are considered as acceptable for applying a student visa to Australia:

  • 6 months saving account balance & FD (from 3-6 months).
  • For any course either it comes in Vocational Education or Higher education, eligible sponsor should be same. (Relatives & others are not acceptable)
  • Withdrawal amount of Provident Fund accounts
  • Bank Loan dedicated for Education purpose
  • Post Office saving accounts, Recurring Deposits (3 years old), Time Deposits and Monthly Income Scheme (1year old).

Sponsors for the Vocational Education are restricted to Parents, Grand parents, Own Brother and Sister, Uncle and Aunt who are permanent resident in Australia. For Higher Education the sponsors are extended to Relative and others.

The Savings, Fixed Deposits and Loans have to be from the Banks listed in the approved Financial Institution - a list of acceptable financial institutions in India is available with us this can also be obtained from the visa office.
Funding includes Tuition fees, Living Expenses and Return airfare.

The Australian Visa Office, New Delhi, recommends that for any updates or changes on student visa, DIAC website at www.immi.gov.au should be referred.
